Gut Microbiome
When a human is born, the makeup of their gut microbiome is established. Delivery method – either cesarean section or vaginal – affects the development of the gut microbiome too. Babies born via vaginal delivery generally have a healthy, non-pathogenic gut microbiome. Babies born via cesarean section generally have a microbiome that contains more pathogenic species. These babies require more time to balance their microbiomes with healthy bacteria species.
